Bitcoin dominance FAQ

What is Bitcoin dominance?

Bitcoin dominance is Bitcoin’s share of the total value of all cryptocurrencies. If all crypto together is worth $3 trillion and Bitcoin is worth $1.8 trillion, Bitcoin dominance is 60%.

What is Bitcoin dominance today?

The live number is at the top of this page. It is refreshed every 10 minutes from public market data.

What does rising Bitcoin dominance mean?

Money is moving into Bitcoin faster than into other coins, or altcoins are falling faster than Bitcoin. It often happens in uncertain markets, when investors prefer the biggest and oldest coin.

What does falling Bitcoin dominance mean?

Altcoins are doing better than Bitcoin. A big, steady fall in dominance is one of the classic signs of an altcoin season.

Why are there two dominance numbers?

The usual number divides Bitcoin by all crypto, including stablecoins such as USDT and USDC. Because stablecoins grow when people sell crypto for dollars, we also show dominance without stablecoins, which compares Bitcoin only with other coins that move in price.

Is high Bitcoin dominance good or bad?

Neither on its own. It tells you where money is going, not whether prices will rise. Use it together with the Altcoin Season Index and the Fear and Greed Index.
